English Touring Opera continues its ambitious outreach work with a new opera for a special audience
English Touring Opera’s award-winning education work reaches a wide variety of people from children and communities to dementia sufferers. This Is My Bed composed by Pete Letanka and directed by Tim Yealland, is the latest in a long line of operas devised annually for audiences with special educational needs and disabilities. Designed to be Interactive, stimulating and participatory, it has been devised in partnership with the Perseid School, London, a school which specialises in communication and interaction, and is a collaboration with the Polka Theatre, where the show will play for two weeks in June before touring to schools all over the country. Performed by three singers and two players it’s an opera about bedtimes and dreams. And a bed with a mind of its own...
There’s one thing about your bed. It’s your very own bed. Except somebody else seems to think it’s their bed too. And then the bed itself has its own ideas. And when things get scary in the middle of the night it whisks you off to meet the very things you’re frightened of. Thank goodness the bed has some friends at the end of the journey.
This is My Bed by Pete Letanke is English Touring Opera’s latest work for children with special educational needs. It opens at the Polka theatre in Wimbledon, London on June 13.
