Opera Training May showcase, ad hoc events London
The National Opera Studio was established by the Arts Council as a link between the music colleges and the six main UK opera companies.  The Studio works closely with the companies who help select the 12 singers whom they believe have real prospects of becoming principal artists.

The Studio provides a master course for a small number of young and exceptionally talented singers and repetiteurs, to prepare them for their professional careers in opera.  The intensive one-year course, running from September to June, provides individual tuition at an international level and is designed to add dramatic, language and interpretative skills to refine the students' existing talents.  The names of NOS trained singers can be found heading opera house cast lists throughout the world, including Berlin, Milan, New York, Paris, Salzburg, Sydney, Vienna and many other venues.

The annual showcase takes place in May at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London, but there are ad hoc events throughout the year such as Lunchtime Recitals and showings of 'work in progress' in the main hall of the Studio's new building.

The studio is based in Wandsworth and has five coaching rooms including an ensemble studio, offices, library and a common room.  In addition, it has a large rehearsal hall, measuring 33ft x 42ft, with a ceiling height of 21ft, equipped with a simple theatre lighting rig.  At certain periods these rooms are available for hire.
