Streetwise Opera's latest work celebrates life and love on Tyneside
The company’s new opera, which takes its title Tell me the Truth about Love from one of Benjamin Britten’s Cabaret Songs, explores the meaning of love and celebrates one hundred years of life and love on Tyneside. Combining classical, folk and modern music from Mozart to Stevie Wonder with Geordie favourites Big River, Blaydon Races and The Water of Tyne, it also features new music by Will Todd and Anna Appleby.
It is directed by Olivier Award winner Bijan Sheibani and will be performed by the classic Streetwise mix of adults who have experienced or are at risk of homelessness, with professional performers: mezzo-soprano Anna Huntley and musicians from the Royal Northern Sinfonia. The story and text by Meriel Sheibani-Clare, includes additional text by Streetwise Opera performers.
